Back in time

If you followed my previous blog you’ll know about my sleep apnoea problem. The first 2 weeks were ok but once I had my set rate mask the problems started, it would leak, or I couldn’t get off to sleep. Woke up early this morning, about half 5. Was a bit gutted to be awake at that moment because I was having a great dream.

After I left school I started work for South Wales Police doing office work (the idea was police officers were bogged down with too much paperwork so we were brought in to take the strain off them and they in theory would spend more time out on the beat) as I wanted to be a policeman so I thought that would give me a good insight to the job. I started off as a YTS trainee but after a few months I secured a position, albeit on-going temporary basis. Then in autumn 1993 SWP had a budget crisis (they were something like 3 million in the red) and 80% of temporary jobs were ended, mine included.

During my time with them I worked at the HQ, Cockett, Swansea and Port Talbot police stations but I felt a strong sense of connection with the Swansea station as it’s where I started and spent most of my employment. I continued to pop in to see them all every few weeks or so up until 1997 when they relocated to a new building. That means there are a lot of former co-workers I haven’t seen since then. So this morning when I woke up, I was in the middle of a dream where I went back to see them all (you know how it goes, it was in the old building I worked at which now I believe is a block of flats and an Arts development). It was generally a catching-up-with-everyone thing which of course being a dream meant nothing at all but the strange thing was I usually have a terrible memory but in the dream someone handed me a photograph of something that happened all those years ago and suddenly all these long-forgotten memories came back. It was all so vivid it really was like I’d travelled back in time to around 1992.

Got this on as I’m blogging….
